It’s not 10th gen – It’s a nice and compact PC, it does what I need it to do, but the title is wrong. The Celeron J4105 came out on 2017, Intel 10th gen processors came out on 2020 so it’s a little misleading making you think you’re buying a 2 year old pc when in reality is 5 years old.

Good mini for pfsense firewall – After experiencing problems with another vendors product (multi-NIC and designed for firewall use) and after returning two units, I decided to give this mini a try as a pfsense firewall. It has two 1GB NIC’s, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with a snappy J4125 Intel CPU. Total overkill for this small firewall application but since it supports AES-NI and is also Win11 compatible so it’s a future proof solution.

Great little workhorse but not for gaming – I use this for light browsing and I can run Civilization 6 on with very little lag. This will not run any graphic intensive game so look elsewhere. But if you want to run a turn based game and run Office you should be fine. I have a few network drives mapped to this as well. It works great but the Celeron processor will limit what you can do and run. But for light work..again it does it’s job and does it well.

Works with pfSense/OPNsense but has Realtek NICs – I’ve been using this as a dedicated OPNsense router for several weeks now. Initially had major problems due to the Realtek NICs and using the generic FreeBSD drivers that come with OPNsense. It was hard to diagnose the issue but I figured the cause was that I didn’t install the Realtek drivers (which are easy to install as an OPNsense plugin). So I installed it and that fixed my issues. It’s been running great for the last three weeks.
