10 reviews for Amazon Basics Standby UPS 400VA 255W Surge

It’s the real deal. Bad reviews misleading? – So after a power outage in the neighborhood the other day while working from home, I decided I needed a UPS to keep my internet and WiFi up for a couple hours to get by. After looking at the specs and reviews, I decided on the Amazon Basic 800VA. It works like a champ as I put it to the test today. I only have 3 items plugged into it which are internet router, EERO mesh unit and a Belkin Wireless charger. The unit stayed up almost 3 hours before completely draining the battery. Turned the power back on via circuit breaker and on came the UPS charging back up again. I also muted the annoying alarm via software you can find via other reviews here. This is a champ if your needs are similar to mine.

Good unit, good value – I’ve used various surge protector units from APC over the years and even though they are the biggest brand in that market, I’ve always been let down by the units when using them. So, when my most recent APC model BE600M1 detected a spike over a year ago, not only did it protect my computer, it also fried itself in the bargain. Researching for a new unit, I saw a common thread that the APC units cannot recover from spikes, so I kept looking for other options and settled on trying out the Amazon Basics model, knowing that Amazon is very good about honoring warranties on their own brands.

Revised down to 3 stars after I understand the device auto restart drawback. Otherwise it is a solid 5 star unit – Original review (scroll down for revised update)

Lifesaver in a Blackout – Recently we’ve been having some electrical, eh, let’s call them “anomalies” in which the lights flicker and there are occasional brownouts. Long story short, our incoming power line was shorting out and we didn’t know it. In the meantime, though, it killed two cable modems and a wifi router, so I picked this up so that, even with the brownouts happening, those apparently extremely delicate modems and routers could continue to operate and receive their full voltage.

    5. F. N (verified owner)

      – Like I said, price point is interesting. It might work for you if you have only short power interruptions or if it is not critical that the equipment connected to the UPS turns back on after a prolonged outage.
